Valerie Green has been an active choreographer, dancer, healer, and teacher in the New York City dance community since 1995. She created her own company, Dance Entropy, in 1998, and established a permanent company home, Green Space, in 2005. Green Space serves the dance community by providing an affordable and welcoming environment for rehearsals, classes, and performances. To date, Ms. Green has created 44 dances and 11 evening-length works, which have been showcased extensively throughout NYC and toured across various venues in the US. Internationally, she has taught and performed in numerous countries across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa.
Valerie Green's choreographic style is enriched by her extensive background, including her formative years with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company. She is known for her interdisciplinary and site-specific work, integrating dance with unique environments to enhance artistic expression.
Alongside her artistic endeavors, Valerie is a Movement Healing Coach & Core Energetics Practitioner with 30 years of experience. She has developed innovative modalities for stress relief and personal transformation, including her signature workshops "Skimming the Surface" and Somatic Healing Group. Green also offers one on one sessions in Core Energetics a somatic based psychotherapy modality. Valerie holds certifications in Body/Mind Fitness and Core Energetics (Somatic Psychology).
As a teacher, she leads movement workshops that cater to diverse populations. Her signature workshop Movement Playground, nurtures creativity and physicality beyond the stage. She has led Movement Playground for older adults, at risk youth, neurodivergent populations, incarcerated individuals and trauma survivors. These movement workshops for non-dance populations are rooted in Green’s philosophy that all bodies can benefit from movement and dance.
Green is available to lead classes and workshops at a variety of partner organizations independently, through festivals or in conjunction with VG/DE’s grant programs. Submit your requests to Info@DanceEntropy.org.
