Take Root: VG/DE and Maria Naidu perform "Home" (work-in-process)

  • Green Space 37-24 24th Street Long Island City, NY, 11101 United States (map)

Valerie Green/Dance Entropy will perform the collaborative work “Home” (work-in-process) with Swedish choreographer Maria Naidu on October 18 and 19, 2019, as part of Take Root’s 2019-2020 series. The shared evening will also feature work by Petra van Noort.

“Home” (working title) is an international collaboration between Dance Entropy and choreographers from various diverse countries. The concept is to approach the idea of home on six Dance Entropy company members from unique perspectives, based on each choreographers’ individual idea of what home means to them based on their country of origin. The idea of home is intentionally broad, and could be inspired from many different angles including culture, upbringing, economics, politics, and identity. Co-choreographers hail from Sweden, India, Lebanon, and countries in South America and Africa to be determined. The choreographers are invited to NYC to work with the dancers in 2-week intensive periods, to be followed by a performance showing to share the work in process with the community. Each choreographer will create their own section on the dancers. After the completion of the final intensive period, Artistic Director Valerie Green will then mold and thread together the entire work into one complete, cohesive work of dance art, to premiere in 2020. The work is an exciting international exchange and aligns with Dance Entropy’s mission of creating multicultural understanding through dance while building community with dance artists across the globe.
